Current ProjectsSalem Street Cemetery, Medford, MA – Founded in the 17th century, this cemetery features stones by the carvers Lamson and John Bull. The Salem Street Burying Ground was originally the private cemetery of the Wade family. It was acquired by the town of Medford in May 1717. The earliest stone is dated 1683 and the latest 1881. Records indicate that there are six hundred people buried there, however, there are only 485 markers. A small burial ground located in the center of Medford which was enclosed with a brick wall in the early 20th century and surrounded on three sides with narrow city streets. A total of 101 stones and 4 box tombs were repaired in phase I of this project. During excavation of the headstones, 17 footstones and one buried headstone was recovered and will be restored as part of a Phase 2. This project required 10 additional bases that were not originally specified as well as specialty brackets to mount two tomb stones on the face of the cemetery wall where it was originally mounted. The project was completed in August of 2011 and took three months with all the extras. This is a Massachusetts Historical Commission Project. |
Center Church Cemetery, Templeton, MA – A small churchyard cemetery set on a steep hillside dating back to the early 1700s with a mix of slate and marble stones. Many stones were broken during the ice storm of 2008. This project was funded by FEMA under the direction of the Massachusetts Historical Commission and was completed in June 2010. Additional work was commissioned for 2010 and 2011 and was completed in August 2011. To date a total of 47 stones have been repaired most of these stones were severely damaged. This is a Massachusetts Historical Commission Project. |
